June Favorites

Although we’re a few days into July already, I can’t help but remember how good June was to me.

June was filled with soaking in the sunshine, running around barefoot and braiding hair. Dipping underwater to slick my hair back, friendship bracelets and loose grains of sand in pockets and bags.

DOING

Swimming- With the warm weather, came the opening of my pool. I know not everyone has access to a pool directly in their backyard just a few steps away, but I would recommend everyone to grab a towel and go swimming wherever they can. The gym, the YMCA, a lake, river, ocean, sea, a popup pool; any chance you have to swim, DO IT. You put yourself in a different world for a little, and it feels magical.

Photos on film- I bought 2 film cameras this month. A $60 Canon AE-1 and a Pentax for $3.50. They are both on complete other sides of the camera spectrum but I love taking photos with them. Film is so eclectic and makes me feel.. at home. Check out The Messy Heads film guide to learn how to take photos on film, or just for tips and tricks.

Visual art- Lately, I have been loving expressing my feelings in more ways than just writing, and one of those ways is visual art, Although writing has always come naturally to me and is easiest, I like reaching for brushes and watercolors or pencils instead of my pen once in a while.

IMPRESSED BY

Flea markets- I went to the flea market with my mom earlier this month for the first time in a while, and am so glad I did. I found $2 records, scrunchies, old photos (check some of them out here!) and most importantly, roasted corn.

Melodrama– Lorde has never failed to disappoint, and this album certainly does not. The perfect album for this summer, and for the rest of time actually.

The Restless Times- These ladies & I put so much love into TRT, and Issue V has just hit the site. Check it out ❤

Analog collaging- The people who do this are so talented, and what they create is so interesting. Some of my favorites on Instagram are @mr.babies, @leafandpetaldesign, @sarashakeel and @eating.dis.order.

READING

Stealing Buddha’s Dinner by Bich Minh Nguyen- This is a memoir by a Vietnamese immigrant, and her journey of finding home through the art of cuisine. Not completely done with it yet, but I love it.

The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown- The perfect mystery, and something you really have to hone in on.

You Are The Universe: Discovering Your Cosmic Self and Why It Matters by Deepak Chopra & Menas Kafatos- Also a book that takes a lot of concentration, but is so interesting when you actually sit down with it and digest the material.

Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky- I’m rereading this for the first time since sixth grade, and feeling it in a completely different way. The perfect summer read.

WEARING

Not much to say here because I have one pair of shorts that I like to wear that I made myself, but it’s too hot to wear actual clothes. I live in my bathing suit. 10/10 would highly recommend.

LISTENING

SZA’s album, Lorde’s album, Circa Waves on repeat…

Have a sweet July

With love, Jenna
